Marco Carola - "Apnea" [Plus 8]

The “imperator” of the minimal, or rather the Partenopean Marco Carola, presents himself again to the insiders through the umpteenth monster tune. The record at issue offers us two tracks: the first one, “Apnea”, immediately bring us towards a Balearic mood, given that the classical techno hypnotism is well coloured by the percussions; the drafting is the usual 4/4 but it conveys in the same manner despite of its simplicity. The second track, called “Dancing Days”, is so different from the precedent one: the dimension can’t be more minimal than this because of the suggestion of hypnotic melody, dark atmospheres and redounded bells. Pay attention to the digital version seeing that there are 2 bonus tracks, “Feel It” and “Palleggio”, dressed by the same flavours and by the same energy of the others.

Tracklist:
1. "Apnea"

2. "Dancing Days"

Johnny Dangerous - "Only Yourself" (Pastaboys remix) [King Street]

The unstoppable ascent of Pasta Boys’ Italian team, composed by Dj Rame, Dj Uovo and Dino Angioletti, goes on. For this time their work consist to rearrange “ex-novo” an historical track of King Street label catalogue like giant Johnny Dangerous’ “Only Yourself” and I really believe their strike is successful also for this case. Try to compare the original with this new remix: its transformation is incredible seeing that from the first version is recycled only the acappella (“The Poem”, moreover singularly available on the vinyl release), reworking the whole in a setting given by tech, electro and dark sounds but however the remix don’t aggress the listener given that the ensemble has been refined into the minimum details in order to warrant the maximum delicacy possible. Congratulations for Pasta Boys because they keep high the “made in Italy”!!!

Tracklist:
1. "Only Yourself" (Pastaboys remix)

2. "Poem"

3. "Only Yourself" (original main mix)

Dennis Ferrer - "Son Of Raw" (Loco Dice remix) [Objektivity]

The new release from Objektivity brand new label will concern the remix of “Son Of Raw” and will be the first of a series of reworks regarding tracks originally released on Ibadan records. Dennis Ferrer’s label overshoots and it can be noticeable by the producers involved every time: for the release no.4 he chooses Loco Dice and Buttrich, or rather two bigwigs. The remix creates a dull and hypnotic atmosphere, the beat is dirty and involving: these are the main elements which allow to improve and to modernize a classic deep house production. Pay attention for the “bonus beats” version, very useful for those who love improvising in their djsets!!!

Tracklist:
1. Loco Dice remix

2. Loco Dice Brooklyn Roll

Âme / Various - "Coast 2 Coast" [NRK]

As a surprise, NRK label chooses Âme to mix the fourth volume of “Coast 2 Coast” series, thing that in the first 3 cds has only involved djs from the opposite side of Atlantic Ocean. These two Germans aren’t a newness concerning the international underground music scene and also this time don’t disappoint the expectations. The tracklist is mostly oriented on a deep house music of “tech” connotation, but as usual the two guys success to link sounds and atmospheres which belonged to distant ages, with a some class and afterall with an extreme easiness. For Âme musical past, present and future set up an unique crossway. It’s a peculiar thing to listen records of some new label like Innervisions, Ibadan and Mule Electronic (these references are applied respectively for Stefan Goldmann’s “Sleepy Hollow”, Ferrer & Sydenham’s “Timbuktu” and Dj Sprinkles’ “Sloppy 42nds”) together with titles like Danny Tenaglia’s Code 718 “Equinox”, Project 86’s “Legends” and CT Satin’s “I Found A Friend”. Karizma - "A Mind Of Its Own" [R2]

Here is Karizma with his first solo album, after has been well advertised during the precedent months the release. The artist at issue is one of the American dj/producers in best form in the moment, which merit consisted to make knowable the Baltimora sound which is so different from the other ones from New York, Chicago and San Francisco. The cd presents 12 tracks (6 en plus to the LP) with a main “deep house” background theme but inspired from black, afro, dark and tech musics. I haven’t got a particular preference for the elements available in this album and I suggest to listen everything from the begin to the end, in a way that to understand what Karizma has expressed through his music.

Slam - "Azure" [Soma]

The duo Slam is well knowed from the lovers of the genre and I venture to say they are one of the many pilasters that continue to keep alive a determined underground musical context thanks for their famous label, Soma. After an year of absence, here they are with the umpteenth breathtaking new single, “Azure”. There are two available versions in the release: Part 1 is a journey with the constant presence of live emotions given by the hypnotism of the track and the warm of the strings; Part 2 instead is built on an ascend climax of sublime atmospheres and sound waves which must excite the listener on call. A record which can’t be undervalued, no wonder it’s among the most played records of djs like Laurent Garnier, Francois Kevorkian, Carl Craig, Steve Bug, Tom Middleton, Josh Wink and others…

Shlomi Aber - "Walking In My Sleep" [Be As One]

The Israeli Shlomi Aber is one of the diamond points concerning the new dj/producer generation. Thanks to his innovative and futuristic sound (as well as of quality) is succeed to gain an excellent reputation putting his productions on famous label like Cocoon, Ovum, Renaissance: a very great curriculum for a young like him. Seeing the circumstance Shlomi’s courage and determination in launching his brand new label, “Be As One”, must be rewarded with two superb singles: “Walking In My Sleep” (which gives the name to the ep) and “Portico”. Both tracks represent a crossroad between different genres as electronic, techno and progressive house and there is no argument about the skill of this artist to make appreciated his music.

2020 Soundsystem - "High" (Llorca remixes) [2020 Vision]

The Frenchman Ludovic Llorca is a name much acclaimed concerning the electronic music international scene. We remember him for his famous album “Newcomer” (170.000 sold copies) released in 2001 from Laurent Garnier’s label, F Communications, who was the first to have a keen eye on the great abilities of this producer. At the moment, Ludovic, thanks to his excellent skill, is working for some peak labels; today we mention the English 2020 Vision which assign him to remix “High”. It’s useless to spend words about this beautiful wonder which must be only listened and danced on the floor. The “soup” is well dressed by elettronic, acid and funk… An highly explosive mixture!

Boundzound - "Louder" (Martin Buttrich and Henrik Schwarz remixes) [Warner]

Boundzound together with two dj/producers? Is it a joke? Not at all! The destiny wanted that Universal Music assigned Martin Buttrich and Henrik Schwarz to transform an hip hop track in something pertaining the club music. We-all’s hearing is going to be exalted after listened the umpteenth Buttrich’s gem who never makes one mistake! If every hit was remixed in this way, we should live in a perfect musical world. Henrik’s remix doesn’t regret me even though I sincerely expected more because presented a foreseeable work similar to the precedents.

Tam Cooper - "Galactica" [Simple]

Another interesting release for the Simple records, based in UK. This time is the turn of Tam Cooper who presents us his “Galactica”, a track moved for its entire length by a bassline perfectly combined with the lead synth and to finish the whole is enriched by sounds that allow us to breathe an “industrial” atmosphere, or rather something similar which is possible to perceive, close to the old factories and the warehouses, typical places which host raves. In the vinyl, which will be released on the next weeks, there are also two other versions: the first one, made by Jimpster, owner of Freerange records, take us in the living of the galaxy thanks to the “cosmic” sounds; the second one is from a German duo called Exercise One, whose excellent work can be immediately compared to the first productions of a techno guru (or rather Mathew Jonson) because of the hypnotism which makes us fly with our mind.

Tracklist:
1. Jimpster remix

2. original mix

Dj T - "Lucky Bastard" [Get Physical]

Thanks to this brand new single, we can look forward to Thomas Koch's (aka Dj T), co-founder with M.A.N.D.Y. of Get Physical records which is one of the most appreciated labels in electro house music, new forthcoming album. "Lucky Bastard" is a track which contains in itself different "ingredients" that yield to the max once it has been put them together. This release has 3 versions: the "original" closer to house sounds, the dark "Disaster dub" and the ""Prosumer me & me remix", which is so-called better as "trip" or "crossroads" between the sound of the past and of the future. T's experience as producer is so noticeable, also considering that this label doesn't never go wrong. Nobody can't pass up a record like this!!!

Tracklist:
1. original mix

2. Prosumer's Me&Me remix

Bangana - "Fantasma" [Heya Hifi]

From the Sweden with rage… The duo Bangana, aka SUMO, comes back in the spotlight with this ep composed by two new tracks, "Fantasma" and "Deeper Love". Listening to the first one, you should go out of mind at the first impact thanks to the unleash of an all-involving latin rhythm, enriched with a nice acid synth plus a lyric "mixture" of voices and double basses; instead concerning the second one, it is surely the follow up of "Skrik" but you couldn't underrate it, even though it sounds similar to "Âme"'s style!

Tracklist:
1. "Fantasma"

2. "Deeper Love"

Roberto Rodriguez - "Moonraker Serenade" [Laka]

Music, as a global phenomenon, doesn't stop never and we can't amaze if suddenly we could handle a record from an unknown brand new label: this is the case of Laka, German label which seems to promise very well thanks to this first release. Even though it will sound strange, Roberto Rodriguez, the author of the tracks of the vinyl, is a Finnish producer but albeit Lapland isn't probably his land of origin, both "Moonraker" and "Serenade" have a north Scandinavian "cold" sound. The first one, because of these dark/tech/experimental sounds, reminds me some stuff of Underground Resistance; instead the second has got a rooted connection with Berlinese deep house. I like the originality of these tracks but Phonique's remix of "Moonraker" is something of devastating: his rework is typically "microhouse" but if you try to lose yourselves in the atmosphere created during the break and after start again, maybe you could understand what I'm talking about now. In my opinion, this ep is the great surprise of the week.

Tracklist:
1. "Moonraker"

2. "Moonraker" (Phonique remix)

3. "Serenade"

Faze Action - "In The Trees" (Carl Craig remix) [Juno]

To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Juno Records chose to release ten "classics" remixed by the best producers of the moment. The first one selected had necessarily to be Carl Craig, unrelenting ruler of the electronic music scene during the last years. In my opinion he revisited Faze Action's classic "In The Trees" in a very good manner, presenting it again with modern sounds but in the same time he wanted to leave intact the suggestion created through the original strings. I'm so sure this record will be listened for a long time in the several clubs of the world!

Tracklist:
1. Carl Craig C2 mix #1

2. original 1996 mix

Many unknown records march out only after they have been proposed by great djs appreciated from the crowd. In fact this ep has been released from several months but only after has been entered in the playlist of people like Carl Craig, Âme, Laurent Garnier, Steve Bug and many others, the great population of djs begun to request it. From Nederland they come the refinest techno productions and also this record proves that this is not the common music which is possible to listen everywhere. The original mix of "Spring" is a good beginning to start a mental journey; afterall excellent the other versions, in particular the Shinedoe's (aka Innersphere) one.

During my first listening, my attention has immediately been captured by "Gallieni", on the b-side of the vinyl, which is a downtempo deep track but in the same time enriched by a space atmosphere and modern electronic sounds.

The Martinez Brothers - "My Rendition" [Objektivity]

The second release of Dennis Ferrer's new label has got as protagonists two emerging talents of the deep house made in NY, or rather the Martinez Brothers. The track, "My Rendition", is affected by Ibadan's influence but after all we can recognize a valuable attempt of experiment between classic deep sounds of the States and the new European electro sound. Watch out the b side which contains a beat version very useful for the most creative dj/producers. There's nothing left to wait the new forthcoming releases of Objektivity because seeing the artist list (Abicah Soul, Filsonik, Dennis Ferrer, Karizma, Kenny Dope and others) we can only expect excellent quality records.

Mari Boine (Norwegian by birth), for whom doesn't know her, is one of the best revelations of the entire world music. It isn't possible to collocate her into a definite genre which ranges between Scandinavian ethnic music, soul and jazz. Universal grants to Henrik Schwarz one of the best voices that he actually can have at his proposal. Also for this time, the German producer successes to demonstrate to can live up to his assignment and marvels us thanks to an excellent arrangement, typical of the modern Berlinese deep house.

The attention of every listener surely shoots forth himself on the beats, for me devastating for any dancefloor. There are 3 tracks in these record: the first one, "Bodydrummin'", is an interesting experiment between samba and modern electronic music, at the second position we can find a downtempo jazzy track named "Columbus Beach" and at the end there is the short "Baby". Thanks to this little preview of the Afefe's album, I don't dare about how will be the rest of the LP, forthcoming during the next months (I hope soon).

Louie Vega / Various - "Mix The Vibe: For The Love Of King Street" [King Street]

After several months from "Dance Ritual", his last solo compilation since the other ones have been released under the Masters At Work's mark, one of the best djs in the world goes back with a brand new mixed session for King Street Sound, composed by a double cd. Louie Vega's name don't need any kind of presentation for unmistakable reasons but despite of the absolute warranty, it's possible to begin speaking about this new compilation. The first cd opens with the two Kerri Chandler's anthem ("So Let The Wind Come" e "Bar A Thym") which immediately breaks the ice and compels us getting off the dancefloor; after immediately, thanks to the third track selected "Most Precious Love", there is a true and an appropriate exaltation of house music in its classicalist form. For the rest it is possible to notice a slow down of the rhythm and it allows space to longer, more stretched out and more refined tracks from others interpreters of US soulful/deep scene as Mr. V, Peven Everett, Dennis Ferrer, Joi Cardwell e Lil Louis; even if the beginning speeded away, this cd expresses master Louie Vega's softest side. As for the second part it's like we jumped back of ten years, when the NY scene ruled the world and no wonder for the opening track which is Basil's "City Streets", produced by Kerri Chandler. Among the many available songs there's to point out cases like Mondo Grosso's "Souffles H", Tears Of Velva's "The Way I Feel", Bassmental's "It's The Music" and Big Moses'"Brighter Days". Going towards the closure of this second mixed cd, we can find two modern titles of King Street's catalogue as Dennis Ferrer's "Destination" and Studio Apartment's "We Are Lonely", proposed in the Quentin Harris' dub version. The end is given from the Urban Soul's (aka Roland Clarke) track, "Show Me". The class is not water and this cd is the umpteenth proof of Louie Vega's great skills. For the nostalgic persons of old school house music it is absolutely suggested to purchase it.
