Mountain People - "Mountain People 003" [Mountain People]

The “Mountain People” series goes on with its third release. Two tracks, one for side: on the first one we find a very interesting production from the minimal sounds which create a quite dull atmosphere cleared by the percussions; on the opposite one a work very closer to the most “tech” Kerri Chandler’s production, “Bar A Thym” style to understand each other!

Tracklist:
1. "Mountain 003"

2. "Mountain 004"

EDMX - "Can't Remember EP" [Mathematics]

Do you still believe Chicago house is once and for all disappeared from the scene? This EP is the clear demonstration of the exact opposite. So it seems Mathematics will never renounce to make enduring a sound which was in style about 15-20 years ago and this thanks to the determination which has permitted Adonis, label boss, to continue producing his original invention. Concerning EDMX there aren’t many biographical news, a part he is a London underground mysterious producer. The tracks present in the 12”, (“Can’t Remember”, “808 Jam”, “Whiskey Lima” e “Boost”), exactly re-create the same sound and the same atmosphere which was possible to perceive in “The Music Box” parties.

Tracklist:
1. "Can't Remember"

2. "808 Jam"

3. "Whiskey Lima"

4. "Boost"

Brokeback - "Brokeback" [Ibadan]

Ibadan goes back to its original sound after the releases of some more experimental productions. This brand new EP bears the name of the first track, or rather the name of the new project started by label boss Jerome Sydenham together with Willie Graff & T. Tauri. We can delight us with the 4 tracks present: “Brokeback” is surely the most pushed and the most experimental; after which we find old-school at the pure state thanks to the beats of “36 Degrees”, Jerome Sydenham & Kerri Chandler’s old production. On the b side pay attention to “Your House”, a goose bumps remix released by *****L (better known as Ricky L, dj of the famous Red Zone club in Perugia) who has been the first Italian ended up on a label which normally don’t open the doors to all foreigners; you must surely recognize the voice of this song (it’s the Canadian singer Alanis Morrisette). To finish there is also a taste of Detroit (Moodymann & Theo Parrish style) with Tony Watson’s “Passages”.

Tracklist:
1. Brokeback - "Brokeback"

2. Kerri Chandler - "36 Degrees" (London Beats)

3. "Your House" (remix By *****L)

4. Tony Watson - "Passages"

Dennis Ferrer feat. Malena Perez - "I Can't Go Under / Buzz Beats" [Objektivity]

Dennis Ferrer’s label reconfirms itself to the highest levels for the umpteenth time. This time is Malena Perez’s turn, singer of Cuban origins, who has already driven the soulful sound lovers mad. “I Can’t Go Under” is a track whose winning arm develops around Malena’s voice who has been recorded in the most analogical possible way in order to be reproduced with the max fidelity; the perfection is reached thanks to the excellent arrangement which presents an atmosphere given by the vocal fxs, the strings and the hypnotic beat. On the b-side there is “Buzz Beats”, or rather a deadly weapon for any dancefloor!

Tracklist:
1. "I Can't Go Under" (feat Malena Perez)

2. "Buzz Beats"

Dj Q & David S - "To Eaches Own EP" [Strength]

Everyone could happen to pass up a record: it will be the fault of our heartlessness up against certain wave sounds, it will be the reason why today’s life impose rates more and more quick which thwart ourselves to make us think or for many other causes. This is the case of “To Eaches Own EP” released by Strenght Music, a label based in US (precisely New Jersey), in 2005 which has been fortunately reprinted during the last weeks. The vinyl offers us 4 tracks (“Nite Ride”, “Warrior Dance”, “Fight From Beyond” e“Deep Mystery”) making reference to a modern deep sound, firmly tight fit between Detroit techno and the most classical afro tradition.

Tracklist:
1. "Nite Ride"

2. "Warrior Dance"

3. "Fight From Beyond"

4. "Deep Mystery"

Slope - "Gemini" [Sonar Kollektiv]

Slope duo present us an excellent inedited, despite of it hasn’t been passed so much time since their last cd “Slope is Dope”. The sound is the usual one of Sonar Kollektiv: the label is exploiting the wake traced by Âme in the modern deep house context and “Gemini” fully reflects the coherence of this style choice. The track immediately trail us in a complex whirlpool composed by electronic synths, atmospheric pads and latin beats; the low bpm is perfect for accompanying us with the maximum peacefulness during the summer season. In addition to the original mix there are also the “Ambient mix” and the beats, in case you want to propose this record in a different way.

Tracklist:
1. original

2. Medi mix

3. beats

Tiger Stripes / Solomun - "Liebe Detail #17" [Liebe Detail]

This young German label drives me mad thanks to the exceptional level of the latest releases published. Does the 17 bring bad luck? I don’t really believe it because this seventeenth Liebe Detail is to all intents and purposes the consecration which will attend to persuade those most sceptical. The vinyl includes two singles: Tiger Stripes’ “Hooked” is a track which succeeds to blend perfectly the modern European electronic and the roots of this producer, well settled on the 3 foundations that originated the current club music, or rather New York and Chicago house together with Detroit techno; on the opposite side there is Solomun’s “Jungle River Cruise” which starting from a lively tech base, it become enriched after by trance melodies and jungle sounds. A very great work!

Tracklist:
1. Tiger Stripes - "Hooked"

2. Solomun - "Jungle River Cruise"

Lazy Fat People - "Low Profile" [Perspectiv]

Raphael Ripperton & Mirko Loko decided to terminate Lazy Fat People project but leave us in the best possible way thanks to this last release. “Low Profile” is a track which does nothing but trail you towards the darkest nether glooms and after you remain hypnotized by that synth line and those persisting hit-hats, you won’t change record. Also nice the remix, made by the Dutch producer 2000 & One, that has an atmosphere more noteworthy than the original. Raphael & Marko gave a huge tribute to the international underground scene and can be only thanked for creating the many beautiful things which delighted us for a long time. Goodbye Lazy Fat People!

Tracklist:
1. original mix

2. 2000 and One remix

Manoo - "Agoe" [Earthrumental]

Everyone should remember the precedent Manoo’s release on Earthrumental, “The Roots EP”, and exactly after a year, the resident dj of Lyon’s Ambassade club comes back with the umpteenth breathtaking release. The music genre which flows in his veins is of course an afro sound mixed with the modernist house music and also this time the fusion between the two different elements greatly succeeds. The single includes 4 tracks: it opens with the hypnotic “Agoe”, it continues with “S.L.U.M.” (and its beats), whose peacefulness will leave us to follow the path traced by him that will bring us to the center of Africa, and it concludes with “Others” which keep the same line with whom the route begins. Manoo is not a surprise thanks to his precedents well known projects released by well respected label as Deeply Rooted House and Buzzin’ Fly.

Tracklist:
1. "Agoe"

2. "SLUM" (drum)

3. "SLUM"

4. "Others"

Marcos Valle - "Besteiras De Amor" (Jazzanova remixes) [Far Out]

“Magic” Jazzanova comes back on the stage remixing one of the greatest Brazilian music interpreters, or rather Marcos Valle. Before focusing on the work made by the Germans, I have to introduce Far Out recordings: founded by dj Joe Davis, based in London, it has been succeeded to make his mark thanks to the meticulous work carried out by his owner who during his numerous journeys in Brazil, spent in researching lost rarities ready to bring back in the light but only after have been reshaped in a modern key given from electronic music contaminations. The track “Besteiras De Amor” is the demonstration of what it has just said: the remix is mainly based on the electronic genre but in the same time it hasn’t been removed the shining of Brazilian music. It’s also present a re-edit by Dixon who cut the vocal part in a way to ease the introduction of this track in a club context.

Tracklist:
1. Jazzanova remix

2. Jazzanova remix - Dixon's re-edit

Agoria - "Les Violons Ivres" [PIAS]

For the umpteenth time Sebastien Devaud aka Agoria confirms to be one of the most talented producers of electronic music. There is little left to say about a masterpiece like “Les Violons Ivres”: it’s the perfect mixture between Detroit techno and classical music, which beauty allows us to benefit emotionally on a wellbeing that can be received only through music. Also great the b-side occupied by “Les Plastiques Ivres” but it hasn’t anything to do with the tornado of violins on the opposite bank.

Tracklist:
1. "Les Violons Ivres"

2. "Les Plastiques Ivres" (Les Violons Ivres rework)

Code E - "Mezzanine" [Mule Electronic]

It’s wrong to think that fulcrum of the whole underground music scene is only under Europe and United States. Also in Japan there are producers who are able to make us travelling with our minds: it is the case of “Mezzanine” which is perfectly possible to catalogue in a progressive house context. Listening carefully the original version, my ear perceived a work which isn’t possible to assign to the last hour producer; Nobuhiko Tamura aka Code E is a respectable sound designer from Tokyo who has under his belt several productions among which those on the historical R&S records, Peacefrog, Third Ear and the last one released for Mule Electronic, included this latest one! The vinyl contains also Rob Mello’s remix who don’t displease me at all: the pad atmospheres passes in second floor due to the sounds which become more minimal. Umpteenth confirmation of the validity of made in Japan underground productions!

Tracklist:
1. original mix

2. Rob Mello's No Ears remix

Foog - "4040" [File]

Here is an another pearl from Far East! An interesting 12” in limited edition behind that hides Yukihiro Fukutomi: don’t expect the usual jazz-oriented production because music changes from today. Yukihiro chose to use this new nickname (Foog), to give life to a project more based on an underground context: “4040” is a spiritual journey to the rediscovery of the house music deepest meanders, instead the b-side is occupied by “Circular 7” which takes back the Detroit techno classical hypnotic theme with a storm of acid sounds generated from the legendary Roland TB 303. Out of the blue!!!

Tracklist:
1. "4040"

2. "Circular 7"

The Dynamic Duo - "In The Pocket" [Tu Rong]

Watch out for the repress of a record previously released in 1988 on the NY historic label, Nu Groove records, in the first years when newborn house music was strongly tied to break dance and disco music. From the original vinyl it has been only taken the version called “Hip House mix” instead the other three are brand new remixes made by Ray Mang (one-half of Idjut Boys) and by an unforeseen trio composed by Alex From Tokyo, Dj Spun and Live Spencer. If you love old school vibes this record is for you!!!

1. Ray Mang mix

2. Ray Mang beats

Various Artists - "Underground Anthems EP vol.1" [Sistrum]

Detroit scene can boast of many famous names which everyone perfectly know but in the same time there is a young blood composed by a new generation of producers that get ready to follow the path traced by the precursors. This 12” offers us three very valuable projects from as many again producers: the journey begins with the deep “Turning Point” released by Ksoul & Ra.h (two Italians which could be mistaken as Carl Craig’s cousins due to their music), it follows in a more tech dimension by means of Keith Worthy’s “Deep For Dayz” and it gives us the goodnight with Patrice Scott’s “Do You Feel Me”. Sistrum is a label to keep steadily under control!

Tracklist:
1. KSoul & Ra.H - "Turning Point"

2. Keith Worthy - "Deep For Dayz"

Dj Mochizuki feat. Pete Z - "Star Libre" [Loop Sounds]

It’s not an everyday thing to discuss about a record coming from Far East but we must not amaze since the globalisation has been penetrated also in the world of the music. Dj Mochizuki is among the most known Japanese djs of the scene. His genre proposed is based on the eclecticism whose roots are deeply rooted in house music, jazz, disco, funk and broken beat. “Star Libre” is a track for fine tastes: you shouldn’t light to appreciate it during the first listening but once the turn of piano and the remaining melody will go into your heads, there is to get crazy. The remix which fills the opposite side of the vinyl has been produced by Idjut Boys who don’t need any presentation. I had been impressed very much for their reinterpretation which mainly exalts the principal synth of the track: the bpms go down but the beauty gains points without measure!

Tracklist:
1. original

2. Idjut Boys version Idjut

Canvas - "The Cat" [Rebelone]

Let’s introduce Rebelone! For who didn’t know, it is a sublabel of famous Crosstown Rebels and we assumed the sound is the same or rather a crossway among minimal, techno, underground and deep. “The Cat” is produced by Matt Edwards (well known as Radio Slave, Rekid, ecc.): its synth and tripping atmospheres can bring our mind towards unexpected destinations but in the same time our heart beat faithfully follows the hypnotic rhythm of this minimal track. The vinyl is just a one sided; get it with closed eyes and ears!!!

Tracklist:
1. "The Cat"

Shlomi Aber - "Freakside" [Ovum]

The events goes on to give me reason: Shlomi is evindently in an excellent form and his unstoppable climb, towards the Olympus of the best producers, continues with this Ovum nr. 181. “Freakside” is a track which remains close to the style of this talented producer: it’s an hypnotic and contagious journey by the refined sound. On the b-side of the vinyl there is Gel Abril’s remix about which is possible to highlight the add of the acid bassline (is there the Josh Wink’s paw? Who knows…). Shlomi’s work has already entered in the playlist of the most famous djs and it has a lot of chances to become the underground tune of the 2007 summer.

Tracklist:
1. original mix

2. Gel Abril Acid rework
