Massimo Trodini + Henrik Schwarz + Kristian Beyer (Âme) @ Brancaleone - 29.09.2007

Underground Music in Rome couldn't miss this great event at Brancaleone and also for this time is able to document what happened during these 4 hours. The party started at 00.30 am with the usual opening dj-set by Massimo Trodini, one of the historical residents, and as far as I concerned, his music was really impressive.

People was expecting the Henrik Schwarz's performance because of his rare appearances. It was a fantastic experience to listen the live creations made through his laptop enhanced with special fxs. This man didn't fail the expectations and the dancefloor has been delighted with a sound which I could name as an "hi-tech soul jazz". The final part of this event has been ended by Kristian Beyer with a selection half-and-half made up of classics and of modern house tracks. Underground Music in Rome highly recommends Brancaleone and pay attention for the next guests!

In the underground national scene, the “Krakatoa” event, organised by Samuel & Pisti and held at the famous “The Beach” club of Turin, is one among the most cutting-edge parties in this moment. Using the same mark, the two dj/producers greatly start a new adventure in the field of discography with this brand new label: “K1” e “K2” are the two tracks which offer us a tasty electro-tribal sound. A unexpected release which confirms the good purpose of making music of quality by the side of Italian producers!

Kabale und Liebe & Daniel Sanchez - "Mumbling Yeah" [Remote Area]

The grape harvest of September 2007 surely hasn’t got precedents seeing that the enormous amount of precious “bottles” pulled out during this last month: it really seems that labels are making war in order to release records which continuously exceed for their excellent quality. This foreword has the simple aim to introduce you a release that outclassed the other ones, or rather “Mumblig Yeah”, first print of Remote Area, Dutch label born from the fusion of 100% Pure and Intacto. Kabale und Liebe joins their forces together with Daniel Sanchez to give life to a vocal track more than ever focused on the deeper sphere of minimal techno: give ear to it and then tell me if there aren’t the premises to let in a record of that kind in the history!

Tracklist:
1. "Mumbling Yeah"

Also his brother Andrea showed a great musical background mainly influenced by funk, rock, acid & old-school techno. Respected guest are coming next weeks. For all the summer lovers, the season is not still finished at least for everything which concerns the music: all this happens thanks to a solar remake of Blackjoy “Metalbossa”. Enjoy the 3 available versions and start to prepare yourselves for this one-way journey!

Zed Bias - "Experiments with Biasonics vol.1 - sampler" [Sick Trumpet]

Time ago there was already the occasion to speak about a talented producer as Zed Bias in virtue of his “Bare Knuckle EP” e today there is the glutton occasion to rate, in the best possible way, his artistic value. I’m talking about his future album, “Experiments with Biasonics vol.1”, which as usual will be released on Sick Trumpet label and this first moment we have the possibility to taste this sampler of 3 tracks in advance: Dave Jones (Zed Bias’ real name) avails him self of the collaboration of artists like Inlinked Minds, Mark de Clive-Lowe and Pete Simpson in order to delight us with a sound in half between broken-beat and deep house, full of class, energy and synthesizers!

Tracklist:
1. Cottonmouth (featuring Mark De Clive-Lowe)

2. Givin' It Up (featuring Pete Simpson)

3. Can You Let Go? (featuring Inklined Minds)

Fuckpony - "Lady Judy" [Bpitch Control]

Umpteenth production coming from Berlin, one of the most prolific cities from the musical point of view; Ellen Allien’s label proposes us a new and exciting release, Fuckpony’s “Lady Judy”. Jay Haze, thanks to the geniality of its magic powers, is able to teleport each of us towards a pure urban underground dimension and to make attend us live to an hypothetical horror movie scene: as soon as you will listen to this record, you will feel to be in a small basement where you will suddently hear voices of invisible monstrous demons and due to your fear you will be compelled to make offhanded motions which will cause noises triggered by the fall of some objects, to which it will add alarms of ambulances and of crazy police cars coming from the outside. The nightmare is just begun…!

Tracklist:
1. Fuckpony - "Lady Judy"

2. Matthew Styles & Jamie Jones - "Lady Judy"

Dj Lab - "Culture Box EP" [Echocord]

The menu of the day foresees a salad full of ingredients and calories which will be able to protect us from the icy streams coming from Denmark. We must absolutely thank Echocord, label based in Copenaghen, which offered us a solid shelter through “Culture Box EP” produced by Dj Lab: the 3 tracks, which are present in this 12”, can be identified in the field of a modern deep house, with references to a minimal, tech and dub sounds, which give off an heat ready to warm up any club, contrasting the overhanging cold of the next months!

Tracklist:
1. "Klerks"

2. "Walk Through"

Dubfire - "RibCage" [Desolat]

“RibCage” is the first release of Desolat, the new label launched by Martin Buttrich and Loco Dice, and I really believe that this excellent visiting card will left open-mouthed djs and clubbers from all the world; the artificer of this monster track is Dubfire of Deep Dish duo who creates a masterpiece mainly in virtue of his huge experience as a producer, accrued throughout ages. This 12 minutes of pure craziness are essentially composed by a dark atmosphere, dirty grooves, catapulting restarts and a bassline, true drawing element of this perfect assembly. It’s a foretold hit and in the near future I expect other releases of quality from this label: well begun is half done!

Tracklist:
1. "RibCage"

Various Artists - "Taram EP" [A:rpia:r]

3 young producers of Bucharest (Dan Andrei, Petre Inspirescu e Rhadoo) join their forces in order to make themselves known in the world through “Taram EP”, second release for young label A:rpia:r. The curiosity is woman but not always… In actual fact it’s not an everyday thing to have a a record coming from east Europe in hand and, especially for this reason, we will feel anxious to listen to it. We have the possibility to value the 3 tracks of their respective producers: “Fuem” and “Emancipare” are minimal/tech house of kind and they mainly aim to create a space atmosphere, instead “Aundi” is more zippy than the precedent ones and it came naturally to me to liken it to Luciano and Cadenza’s productions. This is an excellent occasion to know new names and who knows some day…!

Tracklist:
1. Dan Andrei - "Fuem"

2. Petre Inspirescu - "Emancipare"

3. Rhadoo - "Aundi" (Unanim mix)

Sven Schienhammer - "Aural Dazzling EP" [Wave Tec]

“Aural Dazzling EP” is for everyone those who loves dreaming through music. It’s not the first time German underground scene brings out producers of that kind (Who don’t know Basic Channel?) like Sven Schienhammer, aka Quantec, whose tracks hones among ambient, techno and dub sounds. The single offers up two tracks which are “Realm Of Possibility” and “Aural Dazzling”: both tracks are musical deep journeys but the first is resolutely more relaxing unlike the impulsiveness of the other one. It was about time a project of this musical genre had been released on a well known label like François Kevorkian’s Wave Tec who always paid attention to this sound thanks also the analogous precedent named Beat Pharmacy.

Tracklist:
1. "Realm Of Possibilities"

2. "Aural Dazzling"

Matias Aguayo - "A Night At The Tilehouse EP" [Soul Jazz]

Soul Jazz records, label which is behind the homonymous record shop in London, has always tried, in every its release, to keep it inside underground club music. This Matias Aguayo’s, producer of Chilean nationality, EP is a propelling confirmation of the label which has never been influenced by the musical trend in circulation: there is nothing left for us to do but enjoy the 4 down-tempo tracks of an experimental electronic music enriched by deep atmospheres and percussions which come an go!

Tracklist:
1. "Argento"

Various Artists - "Monza Ibiza Club Compilation vol.2 EP" [Get Physical]

Contemporaneously the release of “Monza Ibiza Club Compilation vol.2”, mixed by Damian Lazarus and Dj T, Get Physical offers us two tracks, one per head for the respective tracklists. The link between past and future is yet again ensured, seeing that Jamie Jones’ “Stangers” is an upcoming, instead Max Berlin – “Elle & Moi”, in the Joakim version, was one of the best underground records in 2002. The first track completely reflects the sound of Damian Lazarus’ label, Crosstown Rebels, or rather that melting-pot of deep, electro, minimal and tech house sounds; instead the second one is a revisited classic as a cosmic “nu disco” journey toward the outer space. You’ll have to buy this 12” above all if you passed up the second track which I talked about!

Tracklist:
1. Jamie Jones - "Strangers"

2. Max Berlin - "Elle & Moi" (Joakim remix)

Swayzak - "Smile And Receive" [!K7]

After the release of a fizzy album, Swayzak concede the possibility to taste “Smile And Receive” with more deliberation. The dull atmosphere, distinctive feature of this track, and the harmony of a melancholic voice are two instant inputs that will bring to cast our minds into the classic images of Autumn and the relative changes of Nature, but also into a deep meditation about the manifold lived experiences during the two precedent coloured seasons. The 4 versions presented are for all tastes: now it’s your turn to choose the best!

Alex Cortex - "Re-Tubed EP" [Platzhirsch]

Platzhirsch forecasts a turbulent weekend: it is not the end-summer classic thunderstorm with its usual passenger bolts but a “sonorous” tsunami whose effects will be noticed by the entire planet. A release of that kind surely doesn’t pass by unnoticed for those who keep track of the continuous evolution of made in Germany techno and it’s quite an hard work to choose which track of “Re-Tubed EP” is the best: on one side there is the fullness of “Himen” with a very solid groove, on the other one instead the highest futuristic expression, possible in music, by means of “Alarm” and “Acid Lyes”. On the back cover there are also advices for use considering that it is possible to risk the addiction for a long time!

Pastaboys Inspiration - "Sun Dog" [Manocalda]

Following up the Ibiza’s summer, Pastaboys trio goes back storming with this new release on their label, Manocalda. As soon as I listened to “Sun Dog”, I can immediately perceived the background of the Isla where Dino, Rame and Uovo had several gigs: the spectacularity of the track is given by the particular melting-pot between afro-beat and “trance” atmospheres, ready to let in an other dimension. Pastaboys are always able to shuffle past and future, and also this new Manocalda has got what it takes to enter in your record bags!

To follow the old-school and to experience it, expressing at the maximum of its potential: Hercules & Love Affair succeed in this intent, submitting us two tracks, “Classique #2” and “Roar”, on DFA. The lack of “funk”, always present in the productions of this label, isn’t not even perceived seeing that powerfulness of this lethal weapon, a mix of acid and electro sounds which will sweep you at the first instant!

Sonomike - "Make A Good Action" (Abyss & Farfa remixes) [Glitter]

Glitter presents us a new couple of Italians composed by Abyss (Giuseppe Morabito) and Francesco Farfa, a young promise together with a veteran. On the square the remix of the first one is not a novelty, seeing that it was present in “Glitter EP” and appeared on some compilations, but the label decided to release an other 12” single, adding Francesco’s remix, for the success previously reached. The element in common between the two works is the wonderful violins turn taken from the original: the work made by Giuseppe, a deep-tech hypnotic track, is more suitable for an underground club, instead another one is better for a big room. Congratulations to both of them and attention to the young Abyss… trust!

1. Abyss remix

Shortboard - "Mornin' Tide" [Curl Curl]

It departs from the far New Zealand but doesn’t at all get lost along the street: “Mornin’ Tide” has a sound wherein exist the perfect equilibrium between the parts, deep atmospheres which are counterbalanced by jazz keyboards and synths respectively. The vinyl, released by this promising label (Curl Curl music), includes other two remixes: Simon Flower will make you travelling for 12 minutes on a n high-speed train with a minimal-afro-techno soundtrack; the other version made by Deepchild is ideal for djs who like records Buzzin’ Fly styled, where deep house is exalted by progressive sounds for a greater atmosphere. My suggestion is to write down the names of these 3 producers because I really believe that great projects are in the pipeline!

IRMA records, Italian historical label, goes back on the spot with M Swift’s “Fantasy”, previously released in 1997, time when classic house garage ruled and the vocal was the canon for every record. After 10 years it changes back as a present-day track and you will realize it as soon as you put the needle on Spirit Catcher’s remix: from this moment on you will overwhelmed by an electro-funk tsunami, which is the arrangement for Vanessa Haynes’ sensual voice. Don’t let you drop this!

Shinedoe / Various - "Fused Presents Shinedoe" [Music Man]

The compilation series “Fuse Presents…” always proposes us the best names of techno scene. Today is the Shinedoe’s turn, woman who, despite of the great majority of male sex djs, keeps herself behind the best consoles of the planet as well as owner of Intacto, label which allowed to make known the underground sound of Amsterdam to the rest of the world. The playlist immediately draw the attention to arouse our curiosity about the possible way to flow, the ones alongside the others, records belonging to different genres and ages: Shinedoe introduces us in her world with maximum finesse, where the hypnotism of “dub” is the master of the house; among the first six records we find the predominance of US deep house, both modern with Mr. V’s “Jus’ Dance” and Laid’s “Punch Up”, and classic with “Feel The Rhythm” and “Space Ridims” by the legendary Ron Trent. Hereafter there is only an unstoppable rise: it can’t run out the rest of Intacto’s team, or rather 2000 & One, Polder and Dave Ellemere, but the main element of this selection is the variety and therefore don’t be surprised if suddenly arrives Dennis Ferrer’s “Transitions” or Harry Romero’s “I Go Back”. Excellent compilation by Shinedoe; as usual quality wins!!
